Kyoto Club organizza il webinar “Small Modular Reactors: current status, open issues”
Lunedì, 2 febbraio 2026 – ore 18-19
Kyoto Club will host a webinar linked to the global launch of the World Nuclear Industry Status Report (WNISR) 2025, which was co-hosted in Rome on 22 September 2025. The report shows that the nuclear industry continues its slow decline: fewer countries now operate or build reactors, and outside China, nuclear power generation is at mid-1990s levels.
Nuclear’s share in the global electricity mix has been falling since 1996, and no Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are operating or under construction in the Western world. Meanwhile, renewables—especially solar, wind, and storage—are growing rapidly, adding far more capacity than nuclear.
The webinar will focus on SMRs, a key topic in the Italian nuclear debate, with two 20-minute presentations by WNISR contributors M.V. Ramana and Tim Judson, followed by a 20-minute Q&A session. The event will be moderated by Angela Pagano, Head of Kyoto Club’s Institutional Relations.
